Kimberly M'Carver | Sugarland, TX
Singer-Songwriter
Born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Mesquite, Kimberly's been singing and dancing since childhood. She was an opera major in Dallas and UT Austin (soloed with the Dallas Symphony Strings), and danced professionally while performing fashion shows with a troupe in Dallas. She still gets her classical music fix by singing with the Rice University Chorale.
Kimberly later received a B.Sc. degree in Anthropology as well as further college studies in order to become a registered veterinary technician.
During college she became more interested in writing music than performing classical works. After moving to Houston from Austin, Kimberly sang with the Houston Symphony Chorale and fronted top 40 bands. It was during this period that she started writing songs and playing songwriter open mike nights.
This led to a homemade tape of her songs which was sent to Rounder Records. Rounder liked'em and came to Houston to see a live performance and offered her a recording contract that very same evening. Kimberly's two Rounder releases, Breathe the Moonlight and Inherited Road, (containing only her original songs) drew great reviews, nominations (Best Independent Record, CA) & charted on the Americana chart.
She's been nominated by the Houston Press Music Awards for Songwriter of the Year & Best Acoustic/Folk numerous times for over a decade, as well as "critic's pick" for Best Female Vocalist. Also, a compilation of her first two Rounder cds was released as Kimberly M'Carver by Mesa Music International in Taiwan. Her third cd, Cross the Danger Line contains seven of her original songs as well as an amazing group of musicians including Aubrey Haynie (Faith Hill), Viktor Krauss (Lyle Lovett), Scott Neubert (Hal Ketchum,Trace Adkins), & harmonies by grammy-winning singer-songwriters Jim Lauderdale and Claire Lynch.
